Ccel - Game a week #1
Hi,
This is the start of, hopefully, a fairly long journey to being a better game designer and developer, by making a game a week. This is obviously the first step in my journey, and it was a big step. I can pretty confidently say that this game was far too much for me to take on in a week, especially given my limited experience, and by the end of the project it was basically held together with duct tape and glue. But at least it works.
This game taught me a lot about level design and psychology, specifically about how to actually make puzzles that confuse people, but still give them enough hints and clues to not elude them and feel frustrated. Although I don't really know if I even hit that balance with this game it's certainly taught me a lot, it's especially taught me that puzzles can't really be forced, if you think of a puzzle to make, then chances are any puzzle you make won't really be that good or worthwhile, and you need to find a way to spark new fresh ideas.
Other than that I've got a lot of general experience from this project, as you'd expect, you get better at making games by making games, and I'm sure that my next project will be better than if I had made it this week. Although, getting Ccel even to the point it's at, lacking polish and still dodgy in areas, has tired me out to no end, so next week will definitely be an easier and smaller project.
I hope you enjoyed Ccel!
